The United States has a glaring health problem.

Among 11 developed countries, the U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate. For every 100,000 U.S. births, 17 women die from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth—a rate that doubles that of most other high-income countries. The maternal mortality rate in the U.S. has been rising for more than 20 years, with rural communities experiencing some of the highest death tolls.
